    Reforestation workshop with ADES

    Manakara

Some 17 ADES partners shared their results, difficulties and solutions. Voiala’s technician, Mr Ratovoarison, presented the association’s work. Field visits: the Bemelo agroforestry site and the Analamanitra reference site (Farafangana), with the association SANTATRA.

    • Innovations shared: drip irrigation, propagation of bamboo and native plants, bi-clonal coffee
    • Obstacles noted: insecurity, land tenure, bushfires, climate hazards, reliance on grants, low involvement of women in the South
    • Ways forward: simplified management plans, tree-planters’ associations, income-generating activities, ecotourism, more women involved

  5. December 2025

    Community forests under contract

Rural municipalities of Androy and Ialamarina, Lalangina District

The TAFO MIHAAVO Haute Matsiatra network updated the management plans (PAG) for areas transferred to community-based organisations. Four VOI had expired contracts: updating their natural resource management transfer contracts (TGRN) was added to the process. The traditional ritual, postponed because of the national demonstrations in September–October, took place in December. Voiala made a symbolic contribution towards the zebu for the ritual, with the approval of DREDD Haute Matsiatra.

    • 3 VOI in Androy: 3FT, Analasoa, Analameva
    • 1 VOI in Ialamarina
    • Approval from CEPF and GEF SGP/UNDP Madagascar, the project’s funders, to continue the work

What the report concludes

The half-year’s results are positive. They encourage the association to continue and expand its work: more plant cover, biodiversity preserved, sustainable development for the communities.

Above-ground fish farming is a chance to improve food security and create jobs. To succeed, it will need a solid business plan, training and regular follow-up.
